August 11th: Luke 22:1-12

Luke 22:1-12

It was time to prepare.

The disciples thought it was merely time to prepare for the Passover, during which they would remember how God delivered His people Israel from slavery to the Promised Land.

But Jesus knew that He was preparing His disciples for life without being able to see Him with them.

It can be hard to remember that Jesus, though unseen, is with us every moment of every day.

That's part of why He gave us the fullness of what the Passover was anticipating and He instituted the Lord's Supper. In the Lord's Supper we can know, through tangible means, that Jesus is with us.

Greetings in Christ! It seems every Christian knows that reading the Bible is a good thing to do and that getting children to read the Bible is a very good thing to do, but it's very intimidating to know where to start. How much should I read? What am I supposed to learn from this? June 21st: Genesis 28:10-22

Genesis 28:10-22 The Lord God stood at the top of the ladder/stairway and Jacob was at the bottom, while angels went up and down the ladder/stairway.  But what is the stairway? Jesus answers that question in John 1:51. And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” Jesus is the way to heaven! He is the one through whom we have access to God and by whom God comes to us and blesses us.

July 13th: Luke 4:16-30

Luke 4:16-30 The people couldn't believe what they were hearing. When Jesus said that the prophecy of Isaiah was fulfilled that very day through Him, they became angry with Him.  Just who did He think He was? But it wasn't about who He thought He was, but rather who He knew He was: the very Son of God. The people wanted Jesus to do a miracle to prove Himself to them, but He refused.  The Word of God is enough, they wouldn't get an extra sign. There are times when we would like a sign from God too, but God hasn't promised such signs. What He has promised is that He will be with us and speak to us through His Word. Jesus had come to announce that the Kingdom of God was present, but the people of Nazareth rejected Him, His message, and so remained outside of His gracious kingdom.  In the Lord's prayer we pray that this would not be the case for us.
